Saint Marys was represented at the 35th Annual Fernandina Fishing Rodeo and they cleaned up!
Lo-Joe Charter Co. finished 1st place in Redfish and 2nd place in Sheepshead. Capt. Tripp Lang Charters finished 1st place in the Speckled Seatrout division. Grant West took second place in the Junior Angler Kingfish division fishing with his dad and Capt. Cal Lang on the King Seaker.
We talked with Joseph Stover of Lo-Joe Charter Company. He tells us that the fish were caught in 3′ of water. Their redfish was caught on a Betts Billy Bay adjustable depth popping cork with a 1/2 oz trout weight. Underneath that they had 20 lb Yo-Zuri Fluorocarbon followed by a 2/0 Eagle Claw kahle hook. Their sheepshead was caught on a similar rig with the exception of a 12″ Little Joe adjustable float with a 2 oz trout weight. Same leader and hook. Joseph went on to say, “The tournament is special to us, because I was able to fish it with my brother Logan. We don’t always get along great day to day, but when it comes to fishing we come together to try to be the best team we can be. Its special to win one with your family, and I’m sure Tripp feels the same way. Lines in the water was at 6:30 am. We caught the Redfish at 6:45 am. The rest of the day we spent trying to catch a big Trout, Flounder, or Sheepshead. We boated some small fish throughout the day, but were able to pick up our Sheepshead after lunch around 1:00 pm. We ran out of bait by 2:00 and were the first boat to weigh in. The Redfish stuck all day, and the sheepshead was only bumped down 1 spot to take 2nd place.”
