First Annual St Marys Sheepshead Showdown On January 6, 2018, the best of the Sheepshead herders came to Saint Marys, Georgia to compete for the grand prize at the St. Marys Sheepshead Showdown. The week leading up to the tournament was the coldest temperatures on the Georgia coast in eight years. The anglers started their day of fishing to a 27° F morning. With water temperature at 41° F, it was a tough day on the water. These anglers battled it out, even in the frigid conditions, forty anglers competed, in both Kayak and Boat Divisions. The winners are as follows: 1st Place Boat Division Chris Beasley, Troy Carver and Scott Sullivan with 26.18 Aggregate Weight and the Largest Sheepshead Weighing In at 8.36 lbs. 2nd Place Boat Division Tripp Lang and Jay Stein with Aggregate Weight of 15.62. 1st Place Kayak Division Damian Brac with Aggregate Weight at 4.14 with Largest Sheepshead at 10.92 lbs. 2nd Place Kayak Division Craig Van Brocklin with Aggregate Weight of 7.06 lbs.
